Phu Bai Airport Fast Track (HUI): Arriving in Hue from Abroad

Phu Bai International Airport serves Hue, Vietnam’s former imperial capital. It has a modern terminal that opened in 2023, but only a few international flights, most of them seasonal or charter flights from South Korea and other parts of Asia. Most of the time, the immigration hall is quiet. If you arrive on an international flight, our Phu Bai airport fast track service can still make your arrival easier, especially if you need a visa on arrival or travel with family.
This guide explains the airport’s current routes, how busy immigration really is, and whether Hue airport fast track is worth it for you.
We are a private travel service, not the Vietnamese government. Vietnam Immigration still checks your passport and visa and decides on your entry.

International flights at Phu Bai
Phu Bai’s new terminal was built with international traffic in mind, and airlines such as Thai Airways, Japan Airlines and China Airlines have been named as partners for connections to Hue. So far, international traffic has stayed low. VnEconomy reported in June 2025 that the number of flights, especially international ones, was below expectations, and the airport operator proposed fee cuts and marketing support for new routes.
In 2026, Hue promoted new routes to South Korea. According to Hue’s provincial newspaper (March 2026), the first Hue–Korea charter of 2026 was planned for late March or April, with about one Hue–Seoul charter flight a month after that. Connections to Shenzhen, Taiwan, Chengdu and Japan have also been discussed.
Most domestic traffic is on flights to and from Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City.
How busy is immigration at Phu Bai?
Because only a few international flights land, and rarely at the same time, the immigration hall at Phu Bai is usually quiet. When a full charter flight arrives, all passengers reach the counters together, and the queue can still take some time. If you need a visa on arrival, the landing visa counter adds a stop.
If you arrive on a domestic flight, for example from Hanoi or Ho Chi Minh City, there is no passport control at Phu Bai.
Do you need Phu Bai airport fast track?
To be honest, many travellers at Phu Bai do not need fast track. It is still useful if:
- you arrive on a full charter flight and want to be first through passport control;
- you need a visa on arrival or a loose-leaf visa and want help at the visa counter;
- you travel with older relatives or young children;
- you want a guided VIP arrival.
If you enter Vietnam at Noi Bai, Da Nang or Tan Son Nhat and then fly to Hue, book fast track at your entry airport instead. Da Nang is a common choice: it is about 2 hours from Hue by road and has many more international flights. See our Da Nang airport fast track guide.
