Hong Kong Passport Holder: Vietnam E-Visa Still in Processing and Your Trip Is Soon?

Hong Kong travellers often book Vietnam only days ahead, because the flight is short. That is why a Vietnam e-visa still in processing worries Hong Kong passport holders more than most. In most cases the application is simply still in the queue at Vietnam Immigration, which works Monday to Friday on Vietnam time. If your flight is close, you can speed up the application you already submitted. You do not have to pay the government fee again.
We are a private visa service based on Vietnam time, not the Vietnamese government. Vietnam Immigration decides every application.
First, check which travel document you used
The answer depends on the document in your application:
- HKSAR passport: you apply for a normal e-visa. Everything below applies to you.
- BN(O) passport: BN(O) holders are not visa-exempt for Vietnam and cannot apply for the Vietnam e-visa, so an e-visa in processing does not apply to you. Use visa on arrival instead; we can obtain the approval letter for you.
- Document of Identity (DI): the rules are not the same as for the HKSAR passport. Contact us before you pay for anything, so we can check your case. Our guide on Vietnam visa types for Hong Kong citizens explains the options.
- A foreign passport, with Hong Kong residence: your visa follows the passport, not where you live. Use the advice for that nationality.
Count the days in Vietnam time, not Hong Kong time
Hong Kong is 1 hour ahead of Vietnam. Vietnam Immigration and our team count working days in Vietnam, Monday to Friday. Speed-ups pause at the weekend, so an order placed on Saturday or Sunday starts on Monday; the fastest result is then Monday 10:00 Vietnam time with the 2-hour option.
| Vietnam time (Monday) | Hong Kong time (Monday) |
|---|---|
| 08:00, working day starts | 09:00 |
| 12:00, morning working session ends | 13:00 |
| 18:00, afternoon working session ends | 19:00 |

So if you fly out of Hong Kong on a Monday morning and your e-visa is still in processing on Friday afternoon, only the Friday hours that are left can help. Act before Friday evening.
Make sure your name matches the ICAO line
Many Hong Kong residents use an English first name, such as “Peter” or “Mandy”, that is not in their passport. The e-visa portal asks for your full name exactly as it appears on the ICAO line, the two rows of letters at the bottom of the photo page. If you added an English name that is not printed there, your e-visa will not match your passport. Speeding up will not fix this. In that case, a new reviewed application is the safer choice.
E-visa in processing: next steps for Hong Kong passport holders
- Search your application on the official e-visa portal with your registration code, email and date of birth.
- If your flight is 4 or more working days away, you can usually wait.
- Flight 1 to 3 working days away? Speed up the application you already submitted.
- Flying today or early tomorrow? Pick the 2- or 4-working-hour option, if a slot is still open for today.
Our expedite service follows up your existing application. Speed-ups run Monday to Friday, Vietnam time: 8 working hours for USD 145 (order before 08:00, result by 18:30), 4 working hours for USD 175 (order before 08:00 for a result by 12:30, or before 14:00 for 18:30) and 2 working hours for USD 200 (order before 08:00, 10:00, 14:00 or 15:00). If the result misses the time you chose, we refund the amount we received. The full table and the rules are in our main guide for e-visas in processing.
Enter at the port you selected
Flights from Hong Kong go to several Vietnamese airports, such as Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Nha Trang (Cam Ranh) and Phu Quoc. The US government’s travel advice for Vietnam tells travellers to enter and exit through the port they selected when they applied. Check that the airport in your e-visa application is the airport where you will land. If you changed your flight to another city, tell us when you order the expedite service.
Prefer to start again?
Wrong details or the wrong document? In that case, a new application is better than a faster wrong visa. We check your passport scan, photo and details before we submit, and we offer the same speeds. Apply for a new e-visa with a document check.
Before you land, read our Vietnam entry procedure guide (step by step from the aircraft to the arrivals hall) and our Vietnam customs rules guide (duty-free allowance, cash limits and banned items).
FAQ for Hong Kong travellers
Can the Vietnamese Consulate in Hong Kong speed up my e-visa?
The e-visa is processed online by Vietnam Immigration, not by a consulate. For consulate visas and contact details, see our page on the Vietnam consulate in Hong Kong.
My flight is on Sunday. Will anything happen on Saturday?
Not for an application that is already in processing: speed-ups run Monday to Friday only, so order one that finishes by Friday 18:00 Vietnam time (19:00 in Hong Kong). If it is already the weekend, the only route is a new emergency application. On Saturdays, Sundays and Vietnamese public holidays we take new applications ordered before 14:30 Vietnam time, with the result by 18:30, from USD 230.
Can I pay by card?
Yes. You can pay by credit or debit card through PayPal on our form.
