Macau Passport Holder: Vietnam E-Visa Still in Processing Before Your Trip?

If you hold a Macau SAR passport and your Vietnam e-visa is still in processing, the application is most likely still waiting for a decision. Nothing is wrong yet. The thing Macau travellers most often miss is not the visa itself but the travel plan around it: many fly to Vietnam from Hong Kong, Zhuhai or Guangzhou, and the entry airport in the e-visa must match where they actually land. Check that first, then decide whether to wait or speed up.
We are a private visa service, not the Vietnamese government. Vietnam Immigration makes the decision on every e-visa.
Your departure city does not matter. Your arrival airport does
The e-visa form asks for your port of entry in Vietnam, not your departure city. The US government’s travel advice for Vietnam tells travellers to enter and exit through the port they chose in the application. For Macau residents this matters, because routes change often:
| Your plan | What to check |
|---|---|
| You fly from Macau, Hong Kong or Zhuhai to Ho Chi Minh City | The e-visa says Tan Son Nhat (SGN) |
| You changed your booking from Hanoi to Da Nang | The e-visa still says Noi Bai (HAN). Tell us before you order the expedite service |
| You land in Vietnam by sea or by land from China | Your entry point must accept e-visas. Check the official list on evisa.gov.vn |
Portuguese and Chinese names: copy the ICAO line
Macau passports can show Chinese names romanized in Cantonese style, Portuguese names, or both. The e-visa portal asks for the full name exactly as written on the ICAO line, in capital letters. Also, do not shorten a long Portuguese surname, and do not add a name that is missing from that line. However, a wrong name cannot be fixed by speeding up. Instead, it needs a new application.
Count time in Vietnam working hours
Macau is 1 hour ahead of Vietnam. However, Vietnam Immigration and our team work Monday to Friday on Vietnam time. Speed-ups pause at the weekend, so an order placed on Saturday or Sunday starts on Monday; the fastest result is then Monday 10:00 Vietnam time with the 2-hour option.
| Vietnam time (Monday) | Macau time (Monday) |
|---|---|
| 08:00 | 09:00 |
| 12:00 | 13:00 |
| 18:00 | 19:00 |

E-visa in processing: what Macau passport holders can do today
- Flight 4 or more working days away: check the status once a day on the official search page.
- Flight 1 to 3 working days away: speed up your existing application with our expedite service.
- Flight today or early tomorrow: use the 2- or 4-working-hour option, if a slot is still open today.
- Wrong name, passport number or entry port: make a new application with a document check instead.
The expedite service needs your registration code, email, date of birth, entry date and entry port. In addition, there is no second government fee. Speed-ups run Monday to Friday, Vietnam time: 8 working hours for USD 145 (order before 08:00, result by 18:30), 4 working hours for USD 175 (order before 08:00 for a result by 12:30, or before 14:00 for 18:30) and 2 working hours for USD 200 (order before 08:00, 10:00, 14:00 or 15:00). If we miss the time you chose, we refund the amount we received. All the details are in our main guide for e-visas in processing.
Need a new application?
Otherwise, if you find a mistake, we can submit a new application for you after checking your passport scan and photo. Start a reviewed application.
Before you land, read our Vietnam entry procedure guide (step by step from the aircraft to the arrivals hall) and our Vietnam customs rules guide (duty-free allowance, cash limits and banned items).
FAQ for Macau travellers
Is the process different for Macau and Hong Kong passports?
In general, the e-visa steps are the same. What differs is usually the travel route and the name format, as explained above.
Can I ask for help in Chinese?
Yes. Our website has a Traditional Chinese version for Hong Kong and Macau travellers, and our forms work in Chinese too.
Do Macau public holidays slow down my e-visa?
No. In fact, only Vietnam’s working days and Vietnamese public holidays count. A Macau holiday does not pause the clock, but a Vietnamese holiday does.
